Abstract:

Photographic archive of Emma Nelson Baker, in large part reflective of her role in helping to organize the Panama-Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco in 1915. Vols. 1-2: photograph albums documenting the planning and building of the PPIE from the exhibition's earliest stages, depicting meetings, ceremonies, surveying, construction, landscaping and grounds, artwork, sculpture, exibits, directors, officials, staff, and other events and individuals related to the PPIE. Among those pictured are PPIE President Charles C. Moore and Vice-Presidents William H. Crocker, R.B. Hale, Isaias W. Hellman, Jr., M.H. De Young, Leon Sloss, James Rolph; Exposition stunt pilot Art Smith; U.S. President William Howard Taft; and Exposition sculptor Alexander Stirling Calder. Also includes personal negatives and 1 box of personal and family photographs.
